Corpartainment is a combination of corporate and entertainment. I’ve never heard of this combination before so I thought I’d create a podcast on the idea of strategically working a 9-5 job for the purpose of reinvesting back into one’s creative passions. The responsible way to chase after your dreams.
Mentioned in the show:
Hey Listeners,
I’m glad you’re here! Thanks for tuning into my very first episode on Corpartainment.
My background is in tech, but I always had the desire to become an actress and singer.
The catch is, when I tried to get started, I always heard stories of how my favorite artists were “homeless in their cars” before their big break.
Uhm, homeless in my car in 2021? No thank you! I don’t want to struggle in ways that are unnecessary in 2021.
So I decided to get a tech job with perks, and financial stability until I’m able to do what I love for a living. I figured it would be smarter to work on my creative passions part-time in my spare time, and keep my health insurance by working full time.
In the corporate space, I’ve discovered that some engineers are filmmakers, some accountants are writers, many product managers are actors all in their spare time. I’ve even interviewed a woman with a pHD in Chemical Engineering is who also a belly dancer! Essentially what I am saying is that there are rappers, directors, streamers, producers, and many other types of creators that work in the corporate world, but we just don’t talk about it much because we want to keep it “professional” at work.
In this podcast, I interview them bring those people on the show! They share tips on getting started on creating a body of work, and how to promote that to the public, more often than not, while balancing a stable job to “pay the bills”.
You’ll also see that some of the artists are were lucky enough to be able to leave the corporate job and make a living from their creative passions alone.
Others work full-time and strategically plan time around their creative passions.
I’ve even spoken with people who were able to save up enough money to take time off to focus solely on their creative passions, if it doesn’t work out, they’d just go back to work.
In all, my guests are extremely resourceful, and intelligent. I use their advice as mentorship sort of, a way to get guidance on the next steps in my own singer/actress journey.
And I’ve recorded them, so that you can hear them too!
In real-time, I take their advice and create new content to add to my resume, a portfolio of work that will hopefully land me an acting role on the big screen one day! Or allow me to create my first album. All of which I have no idea how to do today. But you can track my process and the behind-the-scenes on my Patreon. My Patreon is patreon.com/corpartainment.
I hope these episodes are helpful for you in your journey or if you just want to join in on fun discussion!
I’m Amora Brown, and I hope you enjoy the show.
